Round Top Round Up!
Round Top, Texas has been on my bucket list for some time now and I finally made it last weekend. There’s something about Round Top that feels like stepping into my perfectly curated daydream - where the antiques and treasures are incredible and the outfits are even better.
If you’ve never heard of Round Top, let me set the scene. Tucked into the Texas countryside, this tiny town transforms a few times a year into one of the most iconic antique and vintage markets in the country. What looks like a quiet rural stretch suddenly starts buzzing with barns, tents, fields, and pop-up shops filled with designers, collectors, and people searching for that perfect piece for their own home.
The magic of Round Top isn’t just in what you find—it’s who you meet along the way! I feel so lucky to have gone to Round Top with Selina Stanford, owner of Frockshop Boutique in Houston, who was a whirling dervish of introductions to all her favorite vendors. It was so much fun meeting the makers and designers I have followed on IG, and everyone is so friendly and welcoming, even without a guide you’ll come away with new friends.
Here are my picks for what to wear, and where to eat and stay.
First, of course, is what to wear! Round top is Coachella for women over 40 and while you want to dress to stay cool in the Texas sun, you want your outfit to bring the heat. Here more is more, and how fun is that?? Build your outfits around 3 main components: boots, hat and turquoise jewelry. Next, plan to be hot and dusty - you are in a field under the Texas sky. I didn’t get to wear one of the outfits that I planned because I would have melted into the bluebonnets. Think cotton dresses and skirts, and comfortable broken- in boots. I’ve added links to my outfits below.
While you spend your day shopping there are food trucks and restaurants at every stop, but you’d better plan dinner in advance. Start out at Bader Ranch to watch the sunset with a cocktail in hand - they also have an amazing curated collection of vendors, so a great way to get your last purchases of the day, then head into town. We ate at Boon & Co, and Lulu’s - both nights at the bar - but another great choice is Ellis Hotel (not actually a hotel:) which is such a scene basically all day.
The nightlife in town is so much fun you don’t want to miss it, so I suggest staying within walking distance - bonus, you can get home with enough time to play one game of Mahjong before midnight ( we did this, but only one game because who stays up until midnight anymore;))) We rented a VRBO, but The Frenchie is a great option as well - people start booking their next stay as they leave the show, so book now!
I’ll only give you one shopping tip, because really there’s no way to go wrong on that front, but if you’re in the market for vintage cowboy boots - and who isn’t - go to Townsend’s. They have a great selection and you’ll have a head start on your outfits for your next trip. Because that’s the thing about Round Top—it has a way of pulling you in. What starts as a weekend outing quickly becomes a tradition. Trust me, I’m already planning my next trip!
